Abstract

This talk critiques Spotify's extractive business practices and aggressive data collection. I propose self-hosting media servers as a viable, decentralized, and privacy-centered alternative to major streaming services. While sharing my experiences co-maintaining federated media servers using recycled computers, I’ll explore community-based approaches to accessing, sharing, and discovering music.
